God and Our Finances: A Journey of Trust and Stewardship

God and Our Finances: A Journey of Trust and Stewardship

I know firsthand the financial struggles many of us face. Managing finances as a single parent can be challenging, but I've learned to rely on God's principles when it comes to money. Today, I want to share some insights that have helped me find peace in managing my finances, grounded in God’s Word.

When You Think About Your Finances, What Comes to Mind?

I used to worry endlessly about money—how much I had, what I didn’t have, and whether I was making the right financial choices for my family. Maybe you can relate? Whether you're thinking about what you’ve spent, what you need, or how you can increase your income, there’s a lot of stress tied to finances. But have you ever paused and asked, What does God think about your finances?

God Owns It All: A Shift in Perspective

One of the first lessons I learned was that God is the ultimate provider. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking that we earn everything we have. But as Psalm 24:1 says, "The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it." God owns it all! Once I realized that everything I have—my job, my income, my house—comes from Him, it changed my approach. Instead of stressing over what I didn’t have, I started to focus on how I could honor God with what He’s given me.

Trusting God With Tithing

I know tithing is a sensitive subject for many people, but hear me out. Tithing has been one of the most rewarding acts of faith in my financial journey. In Malachi 3:10, God says, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse... Test me in this, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

For years, I was skeptical—how could I give 10% of my income when I was already struggling? But the moment I decided to trust God and tithe faithfully, I saw Him move in ways I couldn’t have imagined. My bills got paid, my needs were met, and I even had more to give to others. God wasn’t asking for money; He was asking for my trust.

God's Promises When We Honor Him

Proverbs 3:9-10 reminds us to "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." While I don’t have a barn or vats of wine, I’ve seen these promises come to life in modern terms—whether through unexpected financial blessings or new opportunities that I never anticipated.

It’s easy to think that giving to God is about losing something, but I’ve found that it’s about gaining more than I could ever imagine—both materially and spiritually. God doesn’t just meet our needs; He blesses us abundantly.

Overcoming Financial Struggles: Trust, Obedience, and Faith

If you're feeling burdened by finances, ask yourself: Am I trusting God fully with what I have? Have I been a good steward of the resources He's given me? I’ve experienced seasons where it felt like there was a "hole in my pocket," as Haggai 1:6 says. I was working hard but seeing little return. But once I aligned my financial decisions with God’s Word, things began to shift. God wants to protect and bless what we have, but it starts with obedience and trust.

Giving Is an Act of Faith and Obedience

Let’s be real—giving isn't always easy. But in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7, we’re reminded that "God loves a cheerful giver." When I give cheerfully and generously, I’m not just following a rule; I’m sowing seeds of faith. I’ve learned that when I give, God always multiplies it back in ways that are far beyond financial rewards. I’ve received peace, joy, and even opportunities that I wouldn’t have thought possible.

God's Generosity Knows No Limits

One of the most comforting promises in Scripture is found in Luke 6:38: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap." This verse has been true in my life. I’ve seen God take my small act of giving and turn it into blessings that overflow—whether it’s through financial breakthroughs, good health, or emotional peace.

Final Thoughts: Are You Ready to Trust God With Your Finances?

My journey with money and faith has been one of learning, growing, and trusting God more each day. I’ve come to realize that financial freedom isn’t just about having more; it’s about knowing that God is in control. Whether you’re struggling with debt, feeling overwhelmed by financial pressure, or simply wanting to grow in stewardship, remember that God is your provider. He has a plan for you, and He’s faithful to keep His promises.

So, I encourage you to take a step of faith today. Trust God with your finances, tithe faithfully, and watch as He opens the windows of heaven over your life. You’ll find that when you honor God with your wealth, He’ll not only meet your needs but bless you in ways you never imagined.

Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. God sees your struggles, and He’s ready to pour out His blessings as you walk in obedience.
